"Death And His Brother Sleep" - Only The Bones

Chicago post-punk band staring intimidatingly into camera

Only The Bones: Death And His Brother Sleep

Only The Bones is a band from Chicago, based out of the Wicker Park area. They've played at a variety of venues in the Chicago area and into Wisconsin including Emporium and The Wisco. In addition, they've played live on WSUM radio.

In "Death and His Brother Sleep," powerful trio Only the Bones draws from a wide range of sounds – from Fugazi, to The Melvins, to something like This Will Destroy You – only to conjure up an album that's original as it is punishing.

The aggressiveness in this album feels urgent. In places, it comes from genuine hurt. For example, in the song, "Hourglass," we learn of a son disappointing his father; his mother only adds insult to injury by killing her son's dog. This hurt envelops the listener in a wash of distorted, effected guitars, dynamic vocals, and a technically proficient rhythm section – as if to ask the listener to reckon with this hurt.
